paint me

Drip fingers deep your brush in oil
Wide eyed and petrified pouring colour where the soil erodes

Paint me

Oh honey how the heart is opened
And all the textures of a love exposed

Can you catch that with a thousand touches
And seal my lips with a single stroke?

Paint me

I know you’re shaping contours and continents

Paint me

I know those shades and tones and they're
Fresh as a wound when the canvas is wet

It’s a heavy burden baby
But what did you expect

Acrylic burns and the outlines blur
And smoke is what you get

Paint me

White winged gulls and mountain sunlight
By an ocean of jet

Paint me

Blackest in a coat of many colours
Where the air tastes like a cigarette

We’re one and none and millions baby
Never forget

Just let your slippery fingers drift
And don’t be afraid
Of that shoreline baby
Where the devil has played
Where the angels are wrapped in layers of plastic
Where the tide is delayed

Paint me

Naked as a memory
Naked as a child
Love smeared on the easel maybe
When the colour runs wild

Here a hip bone
Here a thigh
Here the outline of my eye

Drip fingers deep your brush in oil

Paint me

Shake me free from time

Conjure a heart
Beating hard on the inside
Conjure a heart, it could be yours or mine.

The italicised 'paint me' and its repetition sets and moves the tone/mood of this piece. It feels dirty but in a good way ... delicious in that hungry way.

My favourite lines,

"Paint me

Oh honey how the heart is opened
And all the textures of a love exposed

Can you catch that with a thousand touches
And seal my lips with a single stroke?"

Very nicely done, Wytchie. :))

Pfft. Kind. On occasion. But in this case, well deserving of the praise. :)

beautiful. i want to understand the references in this part:

Just let your slippery fingers drift
And don’t be afraid
Of that shoreline baby
Where the devil has played
Where the angels are wrapped in layers of plastic
Where the tide is delayed

well, references? i'm not certain, it's just dream stuff - BUT, ok;
1) Twin Peaks - Laura Palmer was an angel wrapped in plastic and found at the shoreline, so i think that was in my mind.
2) wildlife, birds covered in oil - the piece as a whole draws a lot from my concern over the recent oil spill (the tide is delayed, an ocean of jet etc) and also the iceland volcano and the ash cloud (the air like a cigarette) which leads me to pompei and the fossil figures found there. i find those human statues of ash to be very moving.
3) i was aiming for a sort of paul ogden (British surrealist painter) in words effect.

the inspiration for the piece as a whole comes from a conversation with a friend of mine about painting -
which jogged my memory a bit since i used to be an artists model.

i also used to have a performance piece that i would do on stage containing the line;
'the singer stands invisible, so loved - i paint myself white'
and i think that line is the ghost in this piece.

i'm really glad you liked it :))
