well, references? i'm not certain, it's just dream stuff - BUT, ok; 1) Twin Peaks - Laura Palmer was an angel wrapped in plastic and found at the shoreline, so i think that was in my mind. 2) wildlife, birds covered in oil - the piece as a whole draws a lot from my concern over the recent oil spill (the tide is delayed, an ocean of jet etc) and also the iceland volcano and the ash cloud (the air like a cigarette) which leads me to pompei and the fossil figures found there. i find those human statues of ash to be very moving. 3) i was aiming for a sort of paul ogden (British surrealist painter) in words effect.
the inspiration for the piece as a whole comes from a conversation with a friend of mine about painting - which jogged my memory a bit since i used to be an artists model.
i also used to have a performance piece that i would do on stage containing the line; 'the singer stands invisible, so loved - i paint myself white' and i think that line is the ghost in this piece.
