thanks - and yeh, youtube, it really is - i was watching woody guthrie and bessie smith and billie holiday and david blue - just last night alone! The weird thing is how i never used to like music vid-shows like MTV etc. Maybe it's the jukebox element to youtube that makes the difference??? or that so much of the footage is from more interesting sources than just promo vids. It's funny, take dylan for example - he loathes music-vids (or has always said so) but now you can watch so much beautiful footage -and without the self conscious trappings of pushing a single/album etc...
as for alton ellis - i really liked him, have a bunch of records and they still get played pretty regularly. and i was lucky to see him live a couple of times.
