I remember when this happened- saw the news of it on the telly... I wasn't a huge Lennon fan or Beatles for that matter... I know, I am a philistine... but anytime life is taken so tragically and brutally, well, that is very sad indeed...
yes, Lennon's was a brutal death - singer, family man etc. And his life and career did have a big influence on me. But then, the reality of his death is also - i dunno; he's not alone - Adrienne Shelley - oh the list is infinite. And Lennon would've been the first to scorn the sort of 'sainthood' he's often given, in the same way as dead political figures. But to celebrate, well, that's no bad thing - Do the OZ is a funny rock n roll 'hokey pokey'. Losing You is just a fine song - and Cold Turkey meant a lot to me.
It does allow, something - the people (friends, family, lovers), that have been taken from my life I tend to remember with some gratitude when Lennon's memorial day comes around.
