the spare monitor finally works - but only sometimes (i think it was made in 1873!)
and mostly things are too small to read for a blind git like me.

hope to get the new monitor tomorrow or thursday and a more stable network link provided the power settles -
we had a run of mini-outages here again, because - oh, i don't know, it rained or something.
sigh.

sorry if i'm not around as much as i'd like - but for some my quiet is probably a blessing!! ha ha ha!!!! :))

normal service will be resumed etc etc.

edit: continuing the French theme - and since a few people have been posting quotes, here are a few lines by Rimbaud. Rimbaud is a favourite poet of mine, alas his myth obscures his work all too often (but that's his fault really!). I think these lines demonstrate a sensitivity to landscape often overlooked by critics and such. Also it pretty much describes what's outside my window.

L'eau des bois se perdait sur des sable vierges.
Le vent, du ciel, jetait des glaçons aux mares...
Or! tel qu'un pécheur d'or ou de coquillages,
Dire que je n'ai pas eu sourci de boire!

the water from the woodland was lost on virgin sand
the wind from the sky throwing ice over ponds
but like a fisher for gold or shells
still i found a source for drinking*.

.................................

*this a free translation of the last line since Rimbaud earlier puns on fishing and sinning in a way that cannot be easily reconciled in the final 'to say i did not have a source for drinking'.

same here regina!

it's a drag because if i read on the monitor fr for than a short time i get blinding headaches now coz the size of the screen means everything is sort of font sized 4. This is better than earlier in the week though when my monitor was squeezing everything like toothpaste!
was making so many typos from just guessing it was - well it was very silly.

on the other hand i took the time to print some of your sylvia poems over at the library so i could savour them again :))

but i can't do any major length typing or reading for a while.

Ergh, good luck with the technical issues! I know how bothersome they can be, having had to spend years and years struggling with a dial-up connection and only temporary access to a computer.

And... what a lovely poem-excerpt. Rimbaud is really quite magical. Speaking of poetry... recently some friends asked me who my favorite poets were, and I gave an impromptu reading of a couple of my favorite poems, including two things of yours that I'd saved. They loved them, and asked me who this mysterious poet was. ;)

well... i'm astonished and flattered and love you even more!
*gush*
:)))

as for the technical stuff - yeahhhh....
i'm a crawl off to bed now and forget about it till tomorrow. sigh.

i have most definitely missed you, mon ami!

man i wish i knew french well enough to read Rimbaud in the native tongue. I can, however, translate an entire chapter of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying to french from memory! lol. perhaps you've been using this time to pen more savy sci fi?

my French is very limited really (chalissa is the lady du langes hereabouts)
so it was nice to stretch my brain a bit.

as for the sci-fi i finished the story ages ago but there's no point in my trying to proof and type it on a machine that - i - can - *mounting hysteria* - barely - *random Scottish voice of doom* - SEE!

but i'll be back Bro - i'll be back...

i mainly say that cuz i have a lot of time on my hands, having lost my job last week. Also, I might take some stabs at creative writing in the near future so as to take advantage of this free time.

AAh, bloody power outages etc. Understand you - since the New Year we here have one every 5-6 days for the same unknown reason (including hurricans).
Wish you new monitor as soon as possible :) and come back

J'adore Rimbaud! Ma petite-amie m'a donné un livre de son pour un de mes anniversaires. Ma mère m'a acheté Rimbaud porno sous la forme d'une vidéo.
