Zut alors! I was looking at other peoples' answers to this and the picture of the Gitanes pack brought back many memories for me. Of Florida, not of France, but the world is strange. You can't get Gitanes in the States anymore, alas; I used to smoke the unfiltered ones constantly.

I can't even get Gauloises anymore! I make do with unfiltered Camels but the French tobacco can't be imitated.

especially since Camels stopped using Turkish tobacco and changed to generic crap:(

still, laugh - the French hate Gitanes! They all smoke fucking Lucky Strike!! LOL:))

Lucky Strikes? Seriously? Oy. And my second-favorite cigarettes were the Turkish State Monopoly ones, which were delicious but a wee bit hard to find. They disappeared at about the same time as Gitanes, alas. I have some old-school (i.e. without molasses) Lebanese hookah tobacco that tastes like the Turkish cigarettes, but the cut is different and the leaves are surprisingly thick, so I'm not sure I could roll my own with that...
