So - busy, oh yes - and in the UK this weekend (including) has been a long holiday.

Has anyone seen Let the right one in???
I was lucky enough to catch a screening.
This Swedish horror film takes a roughly similar idea to Twilight but treats it in a much more adult fashion. For one thing the two main characters (one of whom looks disturbingly like a friend of mine!) are a lot younger which shifts the issues away from straight-forward 'romance' and for another the pacing and style are fairly original for a generic movie.
Apparently a remake is already in the works for people that don't like subtitles - but i would highly recommend catching the original for some real spooky ambiance and stylised performances, not to mention a genuine exploration of some of the darker themes Twilight skates over. 
Apparently the book is good - so i'll be hunting that down too.

Another highpoint so far has been attending a gig by Kristin Hersh - one of my very favourite singers/songwriters - whose career includes the eclectic indie-band The Throwing Muses and varied solo career and fronting the loud garage rock outfit 50ft Wave.

Although this was technically a simple solo outing Kristin has one of the most powerful voices out there and playing an electric instead of an acoustic guitar helped give some real moodiness to the set list of songs.

The venue was a beautiful building out somewhere i've never been before and it took a long drive to get there - ha ha, not by me though! Smug, smug. No, a friend was chauffer for the evening. Normally, since we both have something of a Fear and LoaFing nature, this can be anything other than sensible but we are clearly getting old as we were truly and disgustingly civilised the entire time.

As for the ole lj - i am dementedly working on redrafting the Babylon Dutch story whenever i get a chance, this simple story has really caused me a heap of difficulties... but i'm making slow progress.
