Writer's Block: All About My Mother

Patrick Newell - the redoubtable 'Mother' in the Avengers tv series.
A marvellous urbane figure, and a fine actor, Newell's Mother (with his ever helpful P.A. Rhonda,)
would give instructions, and occasional sarcasm to Steed and co - and 'Mother' was a much needed character boost to the show as it entered its later period.
His stand out moment was amongst the old ladies in 'Homicide and Old Lace'. Great black comedy.
