i know - three sounds a little indulgent, ha ha! but i had a similar separation problem, the damned thing didn't know if it was being built, getting blown up or just being a figment - in the end i thought, sod it, let's have all of them! actually it really helped settle the structure of the thing which sort of has 3 takes on the same subject anyway.
don't be too hard on yourself over word counts - you're doing well enough sounds like - but if you need encouragement i'm happy to read anything you post *hint hint!*
