River Dance - a poem of sorts

this was languishing in my old blog - and i sort of like it, so here tis:

 River Dance

(see firefly episode 'safe')

She was the dark child dancing into light, She was
the dancing River.

The sun touched her through the clouds. The trees bent and swayed in imitation of her.
Dancing.
She drew a crowd.
They watched her dancing.
Colour leaping from her.
She danced with them – reaching her free hands and bare feet
For the feel of the ground and the delight of the ribbons ... weaving...
Ribbons around the maypole.

She was the thing the people moved toward. Moved through, away from – and beyond.

Everybody danced with River.

She could see the smiles, hear the laughter, song and music.
She knew the secret name of their velocities.
She could call the angles and the ratios.
All language was hers. It flowed within her.
Calling out in a thousand different voices.
Too much for any one tongue to tell.
So she was silent.
Dancing.
Watching.
Weaving through the ribbons and reeling between the
Bodies near collision, objects in space
Weaving and reeling– but for a moment – smiling,
Safe
Upon the River.

Thanks, Wytch.

two things were about the same instant flash into another world for me - Riverdance show (I switched on the TV... and was absolutely happy for about two hours - and many years after) and Firefly (I skipped that battle intro, and image of Summer Glau in the credits was exactly the point where I understood I would watch this show 'cause it has a secret I have to discover).

thanks.

:)))

Nice :o)

Everybody danced with River. I like how you said it that way, as opposed to River danced with Everybody... becuase it's *THEM* being drawn to her, and I like that :o)

ha ha ha! the funniest frakk i up i did once at FFFN was read two chapters by different writers without realising, of course with a mouth like mine... "I really enjoyed how this built from the previous chapter etc etc".:(:(:(((

gah - hellish embarrassing it was.!!:) annoying two writers with one comment! oooooooops!

it is the downside of reading on the internet - somethig i am seriously addicted too, and really love - it's worth the occasional foot in mouth moment!!

Oh, this was wonderful...!
I'd like to meet this girl.:)
This was one of my favorite lines, "She knew the secret name of their velocities."- I mean, wow.
Do you write much poetry? Because this is good, my friend, really good. Poems are best expresed in the language of beauty and simplicity... you have done that here.
:)

aww.... shucks:)

Gorgeous, gorgeous, so beautiful read aloud. I also loved the velocity line, and the following lines about angles, ratios, languages. You put so much River in these lines - her genius, her isolation, the things that trouble her, her joy - bravo!
