this is maybe the first piece in a loose and irregular series.

I lie

On the bed

(Your bed – my bed

Is your bed)

Like a machine made of broken parts

Slammed doors and telephones,

Twisted wire, connecting cables

My wrecked keyboard is still

Touch sensitive

I lie

Waiting for life

For the spark

For you

The murmur of your voice

Filling me

Not with words – no, deeper and more subtle

And beautifully simple

The truth of you fills the lie of me -

Your breath, your ragged breath

It is the air in my lungs

The catch in my throat

The white in my knuckles

The tears in my eyes

Opened only by you
 

The wild electrical you

Transmuting me

I am become

The golden automaton

A dutiful creation

I lie

In the pentagram of your device

Ready now to dance into life

And out to the world

With graceful limbs

A human face

And a secret

The skull beneath the skin

Is gold.

This is brilliant for so many reasons. One being that I actually wrote a poem called machine when he and I were still together that discussed how he was making me feel.

well, that's the internet for ya! ha ha!
it is interesting though - if you don't broadcast your gender - how people view you from your writings...
and how that changes once the gender label is known.
i don't like the idea of people being put off by preconceived notions of identity - which, of course, is something i'm as surely guilty for doing as anyone else.

It's something that's always boggled my mind... the how you're viewed based on your writing. In an online writing group I ran for years, so many new members assumed I was female that we actually included something in the group FAQ stating for the record that I was in fact, a male. lol...

Well, I think the only thing that will change is that I won't be calling you sweetheart or sugarbumpkins anymore. You still rock whether you're an innie or an outie. :-p

This is exquisite on many levels. :) I love how it captures things above and below the surface. It also has an almost romantic view that makes one feel like sighing. And, then the ending brings one back into now.
