temp tech update and tests

the spare monitor finally works - but only sometimes (i think it was made in 1873!)
and mostly things are too small to read for a blind git like me.

hope to get the new monitor tomorrow or thursday and a more stable network link provided the power settles -
we had a run of mini-outages here again, because - oh, i don't know, it rained or something.
sigh.

sorry if i'm not around as much as i'd like - but for some my quiet is probably a blessing!! ha ha ha!!!! :))

normal service will be resumed etc etc.

edit: continuing the French theme - and since a few people have been posting quotes, here are a few lines by Rimbaud. Rimbaud is a favourite poet of mine, alas his myth obscures his work all too often (but that's his fault really!). I think these lines demonstrate a sensitivity to landscape often overlooked by critics and such. Also it pretty much describes what's outside my window.

L'eau des bois se perdait sur des sable vierges.
Le vent, du ciel, jetait des glaçons aux mares...
Or! tel qu'un pécheur d'or ou de coquillages,
Dire que je n'ai pas eu sourci de boire!

the water from the woodland was lost on virgin sand
the wind from the sky throwing ice over ponds
but like a fisher for gold or shells
still i found a source for drinking*.

.................................

*this a free translation of the last line since Rimbaud earlier puns on fishing and sinning in a way that cannot be easily reconciled in the final 'to say i did not have a source for drinking'.

i have most definitely missed you, mon ami!

man i wish i knew french well enough to read Rimbaud in the native tongue. I can, however, translate an entire chapter of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying to french from memory! lol. perhaps you've been using this time to pen more savy sci fi?

[identity profile] wytchcroft.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
my French is very limited really (chalissa is the lady du langes hereabouts)
so it was nice to stretch my brain a bit.

as for the sci-fi i finished the story ages ago but there's no point in my trying to proof and type it on a machine that - i - can - *mounting hysteria* - barely - *random Scottish voice of doom* - SEE!

but i'll be back Bro - i'll be back...

o man, i'm very excited to hear you have something new written. if you ever wanna send something my way for a little proofing or feedback, fee free! i could give you my email.

i mainly say that cuz i have a lot of time on my hands, having lost my job last week. Also, I might take some stabs at creative writing in the near future so as to take advantage of this free time.
