the turning circle (for chalissa)

this piece has been frustrating me for aeons as a bit of 'arrows and stars' that fell off and just... lay there.

tonight chalissa inspired the fix and now it's done and here it is.
the last four lines are a quote from an old hymn.
thanks chalissa la muse amuse l'amore :))

The Turning Circle:

dance for me love
he says
in a turning circle

and i'll dance for none but myself
says she

and stepping out
through the wild flowers
the tiny petals, the new green shoots

all the wild flowers
grown around
the turning circle

and it's a white rose
for my honey
and a red rose for my love
and this black rose has turned to gold
shining like the stars above

and it's breathless
and it's magic
all these crazy statues come to life
oh listen to them animals roar

twisting through the turning circle
of your bedroom floor

and she says;

this coat becomes a lion
and this hat a cockatoo
these jeans are like the heron
and this jumper roams like the buffalo

two by two and there ye go
two by two and there ye go
half way round and back again
in the turning circle

she skips away
and into the night

and she's singing;

for its a gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,

and when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'twill be in the valley of love and delight.

Wow, I helped inspire something that beautiful? I don't even know what to say! :D And including "Tis a Gift to Be Simple" is just perfect, I always used to sing that song in chorus! Me is happy now. *huggles*

"for its a gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free" - beautifully... What for do you write?

[identity profile] wytchcroft.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
do you mean, WHY do i write? i can't answer that i'm afraid because i don't know, LOL :))

[identity profile] avosurt.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I had in mind not just "why"; but also - for what purpose: emotional need or a different meaning?)

[identity profile] wytchcroft.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
emotional need? who can say it's not conscious - but the purpose... hmmm.. i'm working on songs that link together and i think being in the countryside has much to do with it. :))

ps - thank you! :)))

Beautiful - and ending with "Tis a Gift to Be Simple" was such a delightful surprise :) Thanks for posting it!

[identity profile] wytchcroft.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
hey!:)) thank you so much - i'm glad you enjoyed it :))

and being in a valley as i am, the Hymn seemed very appropriate; it is lovely too i think.

lovely. :))) wish i could hear you play this (and others).

ps - like 'prophets' in the sails song, i was wondering - do people know the expression 'green shoots' in economic terms?? it's not vital, but... ???

[identity profile] betsycontent.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
i think it depends on who the people are. if they follow economic trends, and read the papers regularly, then yes. i read the phrase first in the ny times. still, i think one could discern what the term implies just from the visual the words create.

you're so great y'know! :))

ditto. :)))
