I think such a style influences even today,
Studio Gibli and such.

Mononoke, Nausicaa. Especially the town, the people -
I wish I had a direct picture comparison to show..

That was one of the best Russian illustrators in early 20th century. His name was Ivan Bilibin.

If you are into painting, try Vasnetsov (esp. Sirin and Alkonost-imho this has a sinister black metal attitude).
