when i was an astronaut

sailing the wideness
winding the pale sheets
in between the planets
under the table
and under the stairs
when i was an astronaut
with a clothes peg computer
and my brand new capsule
made out of chairs

travelling the stars
and the Luna laughing
good crew smiles and linking arms
powered by solar and magic charms
travelling out to the ancient stars
naming all discoveries
all them alien worlds
frozen and gleaming
an astronaut's dreaming
the gold flare of a kodak smile
the wavings of a lonely child
who travels the galaxies
who knows well the homeworlds
from alderbaran to diva-loka

when i was an astronaut
with a wise crew of soft toys and action men
heroically stoic when the artificial gravity
would fail on them
sent us flying round the cockpit
or out of the airlock
to eternity
in a damaged spacesuit
scabby knees
under the table
and under the stairs
into forever
and ever
amen
when i was an astronaut
way back when.

Oh...
when I WAS AN ASTRONAUT, I had painted my own house ( I still live there) outer walls into space ship control panels... using wax crayons. It lasted for 20 years... and I think threr are still some traces somwhere...
And yes I was going out into the garden as it was another planet...

Excellent, both this and the first Soyuz.

Oh, those childish fantasies! :)

Have a space suit will travel! :)
When I was a cosmonaut back then I used to design interstellar ships using plasma propulsion, dreaming to fly one of them when built to Alpha Centauri. It's a pity those beautiful ships remain on the paper only. :(
When I was a cosmonaut back then... :)

BTW, Michael Crichton vilely stole my Jurassic Park because I drew its plan at age of 9 back in 70s. :)

wow wow. very good!

also, i noticed you are listening to Fever Ray. Are you a big fan? My friends are going to a fever ray concert in october and told me i'd be interested in it. It's like electronic sort of music isnt it? I've heard a little bit of theknife, but not really too much into them. I'm more into stuff like Orbital, Aphex Twin and some newer Dubstep stuff..

You're on a roll, Nic!
This is dreamy! ;)
I don't know if I ever dreamed of being an astronaut- just girly things as I recall- a ballerina like Fonteyn...
:)
Love these poetic interludes of yours!

You make this seem simple and effortless. But: it's not. Very sweet and nostalgic, redolent of a different era, not just childhood, but of space exploration.

It also jogged a memory of my brother's action man hanging from the bannister spindles. That action man took it like A Man. For a long time I thought that real men's legs had to bend backwards.
